Weekend Q&A — 26 Sep 2010
Predictably, a lot of the searches that bring people here are queries about whether a game has split-screen co-op or not. These are yes/no questions and the answers can get a little repetitive to those who are not particularly interested to know them, so I’ve left them for the second part of the post.

Tokio Game Show announcements that made my heart sing
Following the news around the Tokio Game Show and eagerly anticipating more information about the new games’ releases, I was very pleased to learn that:
1. The Last Guardian will be released in holiday season 2011, at least in Japan.
2. The ICO and Shadow of the Colossus HD remakes will be available next spring.
3. Tecmo Koei is working on Ninja Gaiden III
4. Gran Turismo 5 will hit the market in Japan on November 3 and hopefully come to Europe soon.
5. IGN.com has released screeshots for the new game The Shoot, which I plan on buying later.
6. From Software plans to release a new dark fantasy game exclusively for the PS3, called Project Dark, and promises the game will be hardcore.
7. There is a trailer for Asura’s Wrath.

A few pieces of good news linked to the Tokio Game Show
A tweet by game developer Ninja Theory about a new game being revealed at this week’s Tokio Game Show (TGS) spread speculation that the new title could be Devil May Cry 5. There have been rumours for some time now, claiming Ninja Theory will be the developer of the next DMC game.
Keiji Inafune of Capcom then confirmed the information at the TGS, saying the game, called DmC, is currently in development. Still not release date has been set for the game.
I’m a huge DMC fan and would pick Dante over Kratos everytime. DMC 4 is one of the best action games I’ve played. Fingers crossed the game would be available soon!

An interesting game, called Shadow of the Damned, is expected to be presented at the TGS. According to the IGN article I read, which is based on information of the Famitsu magazine, the game will be a available on PS3 and Xbox 360 and will have “Resident Evil 4-ish viewpoint”.

The Famitsu magazine has confirmed that ICO and Shadow of the Collossus HD remakes will be released for the PS3. More details are expected at the TGS.

At its press conference at the TGS, Capcom announced the development of a new action game, called Asura’s Wrath. The game will be available for the PS 3 and Xbox 360. Capcom did not announce a release date.
I think the game looks like a Japanese version of God of War.

HD remakes are definitely cool
Since we bought the PS 3 I have barely touched my PS 2 games and the main reason for that are the graphics. Once used to the high-def world of the Playstation 3 games it is very hard for me to trade down again.
That’s why I find brilliant the idea of game companies to revamp some of the popular titles for the PS 2 and launch HD remakes for the PS3. And that’s why I was delighted to read that the Team ICO Collection might be coming out in HD soon.
Apparently, the HD remake of the collection is expected to hit the market in January or April 2011.

Remembering Ico in anticipation of The Last Guardian
I have yet to play another game that prompts such a strong emotional response in me as Ico. There are games that are more fun to play, there are games that are better looking, there are games that are more addictive than it; but none so far has had such an impact.
I’ve been, of course, looking at trailers and teasers for Team Ico‘s new game, The Last Guardian, and I couldn’t help but be overwhelmed by a powerful sense of deja vu: once again we have a boy wandering around some old castle with his unlikely buddy. I’m sure that the game will be very different from Ico in many respects, but maybe (hopefully) it will be the same in the most important respect. Maybe it too will make me feel like I’m on some very sad but also wonderful and beautiful adventure.
It’s been confirmed that The Last Guardian will be shown at the Tokyo Games Show next week and that means the game itself will not now be too long in coming to stores. I can’t wait.
