If the idea for a 100-word review looks like it’s been lifted from the No Added Sugar blog, it’s because it has. I was contemplating joining that site and writing a 100-word review was part of the application process. Unfortunately, it looks like the blog is on a prolonged hiatus. The last post is from February and an email seeking contact went unanswered.

Anyhow, I’ve got the review and it would be a shame if it went to waste as I’m quite happy with how it turned out. Here it is:

Three things I loved about Fallout 3

Fallout by ~Adopusina on deviantART

Fallout 3 was the first Fallout game I completed, and I’d played all previous Fallout games before. With Fallout: New Vegas still outstanding, I’d say this one is the best so far.

I was surprised to learn that the game has been greeted with hostility by many perennial Fallout fans. I could not find any evidence to back claims that it isn’t a “true” Fallout game. On the contrary, I found it to be as typically Fallout-ish as they come.

There’s a list of the three features I liked best in Fallout 3 after the jump.

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is good

Six long months after its premiere, I watched Scott Pilgrim vs. the World yesterday. I suspect it might have went otherwise unnoticed, but it caused quite a stir among the people @splitscreencoop is following on Twitter when it was released back in the summer.

It is not hard to see why. I don’t watch as many movies as I used to and it would be presumptious to say Scott Pilgrim is the quitessential gamer’s film; but in my limited experience with gamer flicks this one rocks hard.

Fallout review: a marvellous but flawed gem

Fallout by UndeadBat

Writing this review for Fallout was hard. I’ve already dedicated a post each to most of the things that made any lasting impression on me for good or bad. I thought there was no need to repeat that here, so I would just give you my final verdict. Right.

Now… that’s the tricky part. I’m not sure what I think of this game in the end. I simultaneously loved it and hated it and I just can’t make my mind up one way or the other.

Read on for more of my dilemma.

Game diary: Hotel Dusk: Room 215

Hotel Dusk: Room 215 is one good game for Nintendo DS. It is an adventure telling the story of former NYPD detective Kyle Hyde, who has become a traveling salesman after he left the force. The events are taking place in 1979.

Hyde arrives in Hotel Dusk, where he should receive a package from his boss with products for sale. Shortly after he checks in, however, Hyde discovers that his stay in the Dusk will be more interesting than he had expected.

Game diary: Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands (final notes)

I’ve finished playing the game and am pleased to say that I can confirm my first impressions of it, which were very positive.

After the jump you will find some final notes about the game (there will be some details about gameplay, abilities, trophies and story and maybe some spoilers)

Game diary: More impressions of Prince of Persia:The Forgotten Sands

I’ve gotten further into the game and platforming has become more difficult and challenging. Although sometimes I want to scream (or actually scream) at the screen I do enjoy the new abilities I’ve received from the genie.

Hit the jump for some details about the parts of the game I played since last time (I have to say there are some spoilers there!)

Game diary: Heavy Rain

If you’ve ever dreamed of ending up in a thriller movie and take active part in the solving of a series of  murders, Heavy Rain is the game for you.

A desperate father, an insomniac photojournalist, an FBI agent, a private detective and a prostitute are trying to find out who is the origami killer. They all are tormented by their own demons — lost loved ones, nightmares, addictions… and you become of a part of that, you can see through their eyes, hear their thoughts and determine the course of their actions.

Game diary: Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands (first impressions)

I’ve been playing Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands for the past day and a half and am sure of one thing — this is the only game of the Prince of Persia franchise I really, really like.

I’ve played Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, it wasn’t bad. In fact there were some parts of it I liked, but it was not on my favorites list for sure.

I’ve also played the Prince of Persia game with the beggar (or whatever he was) and the princess who had the power to rejuvenate wastelands, her name was Elika. This was some beautiful game! But the story was kind of sappy. Moreover, the platforming bugged me a little. Maybe it were those free-hanging stones everywhere, I don’t know. It wasn’t bad, but I wasn’t keen enough on completing it.

Game Diary: Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

After I’ve officially been Charted (another term for completed the game), I think that the game that I’ve been waiting to play since the beginning of this year, has not entirely disappointed me.

Uncharted 2 to is brilliant, entertaining, fantastic, but…
