The 3rd Birthday trailer is visually exciting but auditorily screwed-up

I’ve never played any of the Parasite Eve games but I have of course heard about the series and know it has a cult following. (Come to think of it: is there any game series without a cult following?)

Belatedly I watched this trailer for the upcoming PSP title The 3rd Birthday and mean to tell you what I thought about it. Hit the jump to find out.

Dungeon Siege III looks very fine indeed

I thought Dungeon Siege II was a fine party-based RPG, ultimately dragged down by an awful inventory-management system. Trying to negotiate it probably added a third to the length of the experience and once I was finished, I didn’t have the willpower to start a new party or play through the expansion pack (although I started it).

Dungeon Siege III looks like a worthy successor. Let’s just hope that they’ve fixed that inventory problem.

Cautiously looking forward to Catherine’s uncertain EU release

Catherine looks like the kind of game that is certain to be great… with two caveats. There are two things that can bring titles like that down. One is a confusing, boring or otherwise unsatisfactory story, the other — poor localisation.

I hope that Catherine‘s story is good, for everybody’s sake; and, more egoistically, I hope the fear of messing up the localisation will not prevent Atlus from bringing it over to Europe, because I WANT IT.

Torchlight II trailer makes me feel torched

Damn you PC gaming! Why did you have to come back from the Halls of the Forgotten? Did I not already have enough console games to catch up with?

I haven’t yet played the original Torchlight and number II is already on the horizon. I have barely scratched the surface of Trine and Trine II* is coming soon. Over the past couple of years I’ve missed all the worthwhile indie games and a few decent AAA titles. To say nothing of StarCraft II and the imminent Diablo III.

Looking at my Steam library and wishlist is like being slowly roasted. And now you torch me with this trailer? Why PC gaming? Why?

*Yeah, I know, not PC exclusive. What of it?

I dread the arrival of inFAMOUS 2

So inFAMOUS 2 is coming at us at terrible speed and I fear the disappointment it may turn out to be. I found the first game enjoyable and I loved the art style, but if I were to sum it up in two words, they would be unrealised potential. I couldn’t believe that Sucker Punch squandered this beautiful and fun game to tell such a banal story filled with characters so thin cardboard would be envious.

This latest trailer for inFAMOUS 2 would have held a lot of promise but for two things. First, we’ve seen a lot of amazing trailers for shitty games; and second, with inFAMOUS so popular with reviewers and fanboys, what incentive would the developer have to change anything?

Frustration will be mine.

New trailer for Enslaved makes me do happy dance

Enslaved: Odyssey to the West is a game I will most certainly buy and play. There are very few titles in the pipeline for this year that make me feel funny in my stomach when I think about getting my hands on them and that is one.

I think the main reason for this is the subtle but unmistakeable similarities with a previous Ninja Theory game — Heavenly Sword. I loved that game. I think it is one of the most unfairly underrated games ever. It had a story that was not only very good (by videogame standards), but also told in a way that remains unmatched in my experience. It was beautiful to look at, fun to play and easy to immerse yourself into.

Also, Andy Serkis.

OMGZ Guild Wars II! Oh, wait…

At first I was agasp. I might have even been adrool. I’m a sucker for artsy graphics, so I sucked hungrily. I’m gay for fantasy RPGs, so I turned.
